Francis "Frank" Charles Joseph Gillis, M.A.
Francis ‘Frank’ Charles Joseph Gillis, M.A., 75, of Dieppe, NB, passed away peacefully after receiving his last rites at The Moncton City Hospital on April 11, 2018. Born on January 21, 1943 in Edmundston NB, he was the son of the late John and Marie (McCabe) Gillis.
Frank Gillis was a published poet, with two collections to his credit: "The Hitchhiker" and "The Sensualist". He was well-travelled, having served his country as a Canadian NGO representative in Nigeria, Thailand and Vietnam, a Canadian Diplomat in Ethiopia and Jordan, and as the Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration programme in the Philippines.
Frank will be sadly missed by his wife of 40 years, Dr. Maria C. Hernandez of Dieppe, NB; daughter, Katrina Maria Gillis of Vancouver, BC; sons, Sean Francis William Gillis (Vanessa Gaudet) of Moncton NB and Francis Joseph Theodros Gillis (Andreina Pulido Rozo) of Bogota Colombia; grandchild, Brooklyn Maria Gillis; sisters, Betty Ann Gillis (Rick Yeaman) of Ottawa Ontario; and Cathy Gillis (Steve Ross) of Canmore Alberta; brother Richard Gillis (Nancy) of Miramichi NB; nephews, Dennis Mount, Joshua, and Dylan Ross; and other extended family members.
Respecting Frank’s wishes, there was no visitation hours or funeral service. His body was cremated on Saturday, April 14, 2018 after being blessed by Reverend Jean Bernard (JB)
Arrangements were made under the professional care of Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (506-858-1995).
