Norma M. Gabbey
It is with great sadness we announce the death of our mother, grandmother and friend, Norma Gabbey, widow of Ken Gabbey. Norma passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the age of 93 after a brief illness.
Norma was born in Buffalo, New York, USA on August 17, 1924, the only child of the late Joseph Miney and the late Frances (Steiauf) Miney. She is survived by her four children, Richard (Dorothy) of Trenton, Ontario, Gary of Fredericton, Carol Crouse (Mel) of MacLeod Hill, NB and David (Vickie) of Pinckney, Michigan, USA; four grandchildren, Richard Gabbey of Moncton, Robert Gabbey (Stéphane) of Montreal, QC, Stephen Holmes (Jodie) of Edmonton, AB and Shannon Williams (Derek) of Abbotsford, BC; great granddaughter, Keira Holmes. Besides her parents in 1970 and her husband, Kenneth in 2001, she was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Carole in 1999.
Norma was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Riverview and was active there as a Sunday School teacher, Church Treasurer for many years, church historian for over 20 years and helpful in many ways. She was also the last active charter member of the Riverview Lioness Club, formed in 1968. She held many offices and chaired many committees over the years. She was presented with the Melvin Jones Fellow Award by the Lions Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed her small garden, reading and playing bridge with her very special friends – many since 1960.
Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Service to celebrate and honour Norma’s life will be held in Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00 am. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service. Interment will be in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
