Ian R. Fowler
Ian R. Fowler, 53, of Moncton, with his loving family at his side, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Saturday morning, November 5, 2011. Born in Moncton, he was the son of Sybil (Sharp) Fowler of Moncton and the late Gerald Fowler. Ian was the City of Moncton’s General Manager of Economic Development, Tourism & Culture with over 31 years service as a city employee. He was instrumental in transforming Magnetic Hill into a major concert site and helped attract significant sporting events including the World Junior Baseball Championships, the World Junior Track and Field Championships and Touchdown Atlantic. He was a graduate of Harrison Trimble High School and the University of New Brunswick, and was a member of Mount Royal United Church. Ian enjoyed his involvement with the Boy Scout movement alongside Ruby Young and Owen Fraser and had fond memories of cub camp at Camp Shenstone. He took great pride in the development of Camp Centennial and his working partnership with the Rotary Club of Moncton. He had a passion for sports, especially basketball, where he was a former player, official, coach and helped to establish the Moncton Kiwanis Minor Basketball Association; however, his greatest joy was watching his daughters play.
