Myrna Joyce MacDonald passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at The Moncton Hospital, June 04, 2021. Born in Moncton, she was the only child of Leona and Vaughan Harvey.
Following graduation from Moncton High School, she trained as a Registered Nurse at The Moncton Hospital and started her career with the VON before becoming one of the first occupational health nurses in New Brunswick at CFB Moncton, retiring after 29 years.
A Baptist by faith, she was a member of Mount Royal United Church, a former member of the choir and a life member of the UCW. She was also a member of Frank H Tingley Chapter No 5, Eastern Star, Moncton Hospital Alumni, and the MCA business ladies curling club. Myrna was an avid bridge player even in her later years. It was a passion she had for the game as well as the dear friendships that were maintained for many years. Having spent her entire life in Moncton, she always looked forward to and enjoyed her regular lunches with her high school friends (pre-covid).
Myrna was predeceased by her parents Leona and Vaughan Harvey; her first husband Coleman MacDonald (1975); her second husband Greg Breau (1997); and her daughter Susan Lee Cowan, in 2015. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Jayne Steeves (Randy Hynes) of Ottawa; four grandsons Geoff Cowan (Juanita) of Riverview; Scott Cowan (Diane) of Riverview; Colin Steeves (Celeste) of Fredericton; and Craig Steeves (Sarah) of Ottawa; and, six great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Nancy LeBlanc for her kindness, friendship and compassion, especially over the last several months. A special thank you as well to Dr. Corey Burton and the Nurses and staff of 4200 at the Moncton Hospital, who were always able to get a smile.
With respect to her wishes, cremation has taken place while arrangements for funeral and burial will be completed once Covid 19 travel restrictions are eased.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995).
In memory of Myrna, donations to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital (friendsfoundation.ca) would be appreciated. Online condolences for the family may be shared on Fergusons Funeral Home Facebook page or at
