Vaughn L. Porter, 62, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Vaughn will be remembered as a kind and gentle man. He had a warm smile which beamed with pride when he spoke of his wife of 27 years, Charlotte, his son Alec (24), and his daughter Morgan (23). Vaughn was truly passionate about his many hobbies. He was an avid gardener with a meticulous green thumb. He was a car enthusiast, with the cleanest vehicles around. He loved to travel and enjoyed hiking with his beautiful family.
Whether on a golf trip with friends, hosting a dinner party with Charlotte or playing a simple game of crib, Vaughn looked forward to them all with equal excitement. He cherished every activity and those he spent his time with, and wow did he love to laugh.
As a Moncton High School and UNB graduate, Vaughn had recently retired from a career in sales. While he excelled at any sport he tried, he was a particularly good hockey player and golfer. As a regular at many local courses, Vaughn posted a score of 69, recorded an elusive hole in one and captured the Senior Men’s Championship at Royal Oaks.
Vaughn played Junior A and University hockey. Later, his passion for hockey turned to various recreational leagues in Moncton, where he was part of many championship teams. He shared this love with his children, watching Alec and Morgan, cheering them on and encouraging them both on and off the ice. A true sportsman and good teammate, he was the definition of class. An example to all, especially his family.
Vaughn was much more than all of this. He was a loving husband to Charlotte, a dedicated and proud father to Alec and Morgan, a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend to so many. If you called Vaughn, he answered and helped….he always helped.
In addition to his adoring wife and children, Vaughn will be sadly missed by his mother Marilyn Colpitts (late Richard), brother Brent Porter, Pauline Leopold, mother-in-law, (late Granville), sister in law, Angela Browne (Brad), Derek Leopold, brother in law, several nieces and nephews, extended members of the Porter family, and many many friends.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
