Robert “Bob” Abbey Burke, 84, of Spencer Memorial Home, and formerly of Madison Avenue, Moncton, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, December 2, 2013. Born in Amherst, NS, he was the son of the late Abbey and Emelia (Girouard) Burke MacDonald. Bob attended St. Charles School in Amherst, NS, St. Mary’s Boys School in Halifax, NS and graduated from St. Francis Xavier University (1955)and was proud to wear his “X” ring. He was a former Accounts Officer with the RCAF, retired with the rank of Captain and served with the United Nations Emergency Peacekeeping Force (UNEF) in Gaza (1967). Upon retirement, Bob worked with the Department of Regional Economic Expansion (DREE), Agriculture Canada and the Commissionaires. Bob spent many hours on his ham radio (VE1ARK) and had a passion for aircraft, reading, socializing at the Officers’ Mess with his wife, Jeannette, lobster suppers with the family and will be remembered for his dry wit and fantastic sense of humour.

Bob will be sadly missed by his daughter, Nancy Russell (Robbie) of Riverview; sons, Larry (Kelly) of Halifax, NS, Steven of Moncton; four grandchildren, Cara McKendrick (Tim Brown), Andrew McKendrick, Patrice and Nicola Burke; great granddaughter, Emily Quinn Brown; brother, David and sister-in-law, Helen Burke; several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his wife, Jeannette R. (LeBlanc) Burke (2007); two brothers, William and Frank; sister, Doris.

Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Moncton Legion Branch #6 service at 3:45, Sharing of Memories and Parish Prayers for Bob on Wednesday at 8:30 at the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Falkland Dr., on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 11:00 am with Rev. Phil Mulligan officiating. Reception in the Parish Hall following the service. Interment, St. Charles Nativity Cemetery, Amherst, NS.

The family would like to thank Spencer Memorial Home, especially Laurieanne, Shirley and Anne, for the care and compassion shown to Bob during his six and one half year stay.
